A model was proposed for the description of the effect of flows of lattice dislocations, caused by intragranular deformation or grain-boundary migration, upon grain-boundary diffusion. It was shown that grain-boundary diffusion was enhanced during deformation because dislocations that were trapped by the grain boundary changed its free volume. The kinetics of defect accumulation in grain boundaries were studied, while making allowance for their effect upon grain-boundary diffusion. The coefficient of grain-boundary diffusion was expressed in terms of the rate of intragranular deformation, and material parameters.
