The effect of hydrostatic pressures upon the energy of self-diffusion was investigated by using parameter-free total energy calculations. It was found that the vacancy, interstitial, and concerted exchange mechanisms (which had similar activation energies) exhibited differing pressure dependences. It was also shown that, unlike the (111) surface, the nearest neighbors of the Si vacancy relaxed inwards rather than outwards.
