Light scattering by edge dislocations, and the resultant loss coefficients, were modelled for the case of layer samples. Phase-front deformation that was caused by refractive-index variations in the strain field of the dislocation was considered, and the resultant scattering loss was calculated. It was shown that the high dislocation densities which were observed in layers of the present material could lead to large loss coefficients.
