The decomposition of [0¯11] superlattice dislocations in cyclically deformed polysynthetically twinned crystals was examined by concentrating upon the effect of the Schmid factor of the operating slip systems. The decomposition of [0¯11] superlattice dislocations on (111), into ½[1¯10] ordinary and ½[¯1¯12] superlattice dislocations, occurred more frequently with increasing ratio of the Schmid factor for (111)½[1¯10] slip to that for (111)[0¯11] slip. It was found that the most effective factor which controlled decomposition was the stress component that determined the motion of the resultant ½[1¯10] dislocations.
