A model was proposed for deformation-induced migration along random high-angle grain boundaries. It was assumed that the free volume of the grain boundaries markedly affected their structure, as well as their thermodynamic and kinetic properties. It was shown here that an additional free volume which was produced in grain boundaries during deformation could affect their diffusion parameters. The grain boundary excess energy and self-diffusion coefficient were expressed in terms of the additional free volume of the grain boundaries.
