A theory was presented for the elementary excitations of Burgers’ dislocation model for a symmetrical pure tilt boundary. Calculations were made, within the framework of isotropic elasticity, of the effective force constants of the harmonic springs that held together the interfacial dislocations. Interactions between more distant neighboring dislocations were taken into account, and it was shown that the sum rule for the force constants was exactly satisfied. The concept of a characteristic frequency, associated with a tilt boundary, was introduced.
