The motion of a dislocation in a strained layer was calculated by using the theory of elastic continua. It was found that the blocking of a moving dislocation, by a fixed misfit dislocation lying across its path, was weaker than expected. The calculations involved no approximations concerning the shape of the dislocation, and correctly took account of self-interaction of the moving dislocation.
