The O non-stoichiometry and conductivity of a series of La2-xSrxNiO4 solid solutions, where x was between 0 and 1.4, were investigated in Ar-O mixtures under O partial pressures of 1.5 to 286Pa, and at temperatures ranging from 20 to 1050C. Increasing the Sr content from 0 to 0.4 was found to decrease the amount of weakly bonded O which could be reversibly exchanged with O in the gaseous phase at 250 to 550C. The O permeability of materials with x-values of between 0 and 0.4 increased with increasing range of O non-stoichiometry. At temperatures above 800C, the O partial pressure gradient was between 2.1 x 104 and 200Pa.
