SrF2-SmF3, SrF2-TbF3, SrF2-TmF3, SrF2-YF3, SrF2-YbF3: Ionic Conduction

The fluoride-ion conductivity of solid solutions with the tysonite structure was determined by using impedance spectroscopic techniques. The highest conductivity (0.0005S/cm) was found in the case of Ce0.973Sr0.027F2.973 at 293K. The temperature and compositional dependences of the conductivity were explained in terms of the migration of mobile F vacancies over non-equivalent structural positions. The solid solutions which involved La, Pr or Nd exhibited the compensation effect.
