A study was made of quaternary super-ionic glasses of the form: xAgX-(50-x)Ag2O-20MoO3-30P2O5. The experimental results revealed a marked increase in the thermal expansion coefficient, which was attributed to the progressive formation of a more open network structure as the halide content was increased. This increasingly open nature of the network was suggested to be the main reason for an associated large (4 orders of magnitude) increase in the ionic conductivity.
