Compounds, Pb1-xMxWO4, with a scheelite-type structure were synthesized, and their conduction properties at higher temperatures were investigated. A large increase in the conductivity of pure PbWO4 was observed upon substituting Pr or Tb ions, and the transport number of the oxide ions approached unity. Regardless of the valence of the substituted lanthanide ions, the conduction properties and defect structures of these systems were found to be similar to those of PbWO4 when substituted with other lanthanides (La, Sm).
