An excitation transfer among C-O and vacancy-O defects in electron-irradiated material was studied by using the photo-electron spin-echo technique. An analysis of suitable rate equations permitted an estimation to be made of the quantum yield of non-radiative tunnelling among C-O and V-O centers. These processes were found to be several orders of magnitude more efficient than were donor-acceptor pair radiative recombination and bound exciton radiative transitions.
