The kinetics of V-center formation in corundum crystals which had been irradiated with 50MeV electrons were investigated. It was observed that the concentration of V centers increased linearly with irradiation doses of 5 x 1016 to 1018/cm2. It was observed that annealing, and illumination using light with optical absorption bands at 205, 255 and 302nm, decreased the intensity of the characteristic 410nm V-center band. When an irradiated crystal that had been irradiated and annealed at 425C was exposed to 0.08nm synchrotron radiation, the concentration of V centers increased.
