The logarithmic decrement was measured in alloys, with V contents of 0.5, 1.0, 1.9, 7, 12, 20 or 50at%, by using a low-frequency (3 to 7Hz) inverse torsion pendulum at temperatures ranging from 20 to 800C. The complex O-atom Snoek peaks were analyzed, and individual Debye-type peaks were identified. The parameters of these peaks were used to obtain information of 2 types. One was the distribution of O atoms among octahedral interstices which differed with regard to the number of V atoms in the nearest-neighbor lattice sites (static parameter). The other was the potential barrier to diffusing O atoms (dynamic parameter). The former parameter was used to evaluate the binding energies of O to V atoms in V-O complexes with various numbers of V atoms. The latter parameter aided in the understanding of the structure of potential barriers to the diffusion of O atoms from certain positions.
