The solubility and diffusivity of H and D in polycrystalline -Y were measured at temperatures ranging from 1073 to 1273K, by using gas absorption methods and H and D concentrations of 0 to 0.44. The H and D diffusion coefficients increased with concentration. The results were explained in terms of a model in which a H atom could occupy a pair of 2 nearest-neighbor tetrahedral sites of the hexagonal close-packed -Y lattice and could migrate almost freely between the 2 sites.
