On the basis that the physical properties of a material depend upon the nature of the chemical bond, a simple approach was used to treat the ionic transport properties of glasses. A new scale of electronegativity was defined in terms of the atomic nodal radii. The values of the ionic conductivity, activation energy and glass transition temperature of members of the present series of glasses were analyzed by using the new scale. Interesting chemical trends were found which provided useful insights into the understanding of ion transport properties in glasses.
