The effect of the O content of ceramic samples upon cathodoluminescence emissions was studied by means of scanning electron microscopy. No luminescent band was found to be related to the presence of native O vacancies in untreated samples. On the other hand, vacancies were involved in luminescent centers which formed after treatments such as electron irradiation.
