The incorporation of protons into perovskite oxides was investigated by means of secondary ion mass spectrometry. The analyses were carried out using Cs+ primary bombardment, and negative secondary ions. The samples of SrCe0.95Yb0.05O3 were annealed in wet or dry O at 600C before analysis. Proton incorporation into La0.5Sr0.5CoO3 was also investigated. There were difficulties with regard to the determination of H concentrations in oxides by using secondary ion mass spectrometry; especially in connection with mass interference, the use of isotopes and the interpretation of negative-ion secondary ion mass spectrometry.
