A detailed study was made of the crystallography of each of the 3 oxidized phases which occurred in the CeTaO4+δ system. This was essential in order to understand the structural relationships between the various phases, and to obtain some insight into the oxidation reduction mechanisms which permitted the formation of the oxidized phases. It was found that twinning was endemic in the stoichiometric material, as well as in each of the oxidized phases.
