A new crystalline approximant to this decagonal quasicrystal was discovered, and was studied by using X-ray single-crystal and powder diffraction techniques. The phase had a base-centered orthorhombic unit cell, with lattice parameters of a = 2.3889, b = 3.2802 and c = 1.6692nm. The diffraction patterns showed that 5-fold rotational twinning occurred frequently in the samples. The twinning was analyzed in terms of a tiling model which incorporated hexagonal and crown-shaped tiles.
