Twin-free monocrystals of Fe2Dy0.7Tb0.3 with a <111> orientation were grown by using the Czochralski method with a cold crucible. The use of various methods demonstrated the twin-free and monocrystalline nature of the crystals. Optimum growth parameters were found experimentally which avoided constitutional supercooling. A decanting method was used to provide direct evidence that unstable growth was the cause of dendrite growth in this material and had foiled previous attempts to grow <111> single crystals.
