The effect of defects, such as vacancies, interstitials, and Frenkel pairs, upon the lattice parameters of body-centered cubic crystals was simulated. A comparison of experimental data for PbSe, PbTe and SnTe films which had been irradiated with energetic particles showed that the predominant type of defect in the chalcohen sub-lattice was the Frenkel pair.
