It was recalled that the usual interface analysis procedure was to calculate the mismatch between 2 sets of lattice planes of the corresponding matrix phases, based upon the lattice parameters, and then to compare the results with the observed interface dislocation arrangement. Here, cases were investigated in which misfit dislocations were expected to exist at the interface, according to the predictions of geometrical analysis, even though a good coherent match existed at such interfaces as seen in high-resolution electron microscopic images. It was concluded that a structural similarity between 2 phases could accommodate a relatively large geometrical interfacial mismatch under certain conditions.
