Potential step and cyclic-voltammetric experiments on thin-layer cells were analyzed by using simulation techniques. A relationship was found between the time which was required for exhaustive electrolysis of the electroactive species, and the thickness of the thin-layer cell. On the basis of this relationship, a lower time limit on the chemical reaction could be estimated. In the case of cyclic voltammetry, a semi-empirical formula was derived, for the peak-to-peak potential difference, in terms of the sweep rate, cell thickness, diffusion coefficient, and electron transfer number.
