The dissolution of MgO in slags of this composition was studied at temperatures that ranged from 1573 to 1673K. The concentration profiles of Mg in (Mg,Fe)O solid-solution layers were determined, and were used to estimate the diffusivity of MgO in the slag and in the solid solutions (figure 4). It was found that the dissolution of MgO in the slags increased with CaF2 content.
