The formation of dislocation patterns was considered for a reaction-diffusion model in which well-known dislocation interaction mechanisms were represented by linear and non-linear terms. The non-linear analysis which was developed showed that it was possible to obtain a rich dynamic behavior, with spatial and/or temporal patterns, which could be tentatively likened to those observed experimentally (such as persistent slip bands, rod-like structures or cell structures). However, transformation of the reaction-diffusion model into Ginzburg-Landau equation form led to unexpected results which revealed the limitations of the model.
