By using elasticity theory, the corresponding critical thicknesses for this generation process in anisotropic media were derived. It was suggested that the fact, that the critical thickness which was deduced from a dissociated threading dislocation was less than that deduced from an undissociated threading dislocation, made misfit dislocation generation by dissociated threading dislocations the more likely process. Since the gliding geometries of misfit dislocations depended upon which partial was the leading one, and upon the critical thickness of each partial, all of the possible cases were considered.
