An analysis of superstructural defects in ordered alloys with hexagonal close-packing was carried out by complementing the packing in order to form the lattice. An algorithm was presented for the determination of all of the energetically equivalent, but geometrically different, representations of a superstructure. The maximum number of superstructural planar defects of the same orientation, but differing energies, was estimated. The method was applied to the D019 superstructure.
