A procedure for the estimation of defect interaction parameters in solids was suggested. Vacancy-type defect effective interactions were described by the mixing potential. The sign of this potential determined the solubility in the vacancy-type defect-atom solid solution. The vacancy-type defect thermodynamic parameters were evaluated by fitting the temperature dependence of the self-diffusion coefficient. The ability of the suggested approach to describe the stability of the defect-atom alloy was illustrated for the case of Nb.
