A theoretical model for interacting atomic chains was proposed which involved a multi- (2- or 3-) dimensional generalization of the classical Frenkel-Kontorova (discrete sine-Gordon) model. A previous paper had considered the application of the interacting atomic chain model to the description of the crowdion in anisotropic crystals. It was proved here that this model could be used for the computer simulation of edge dislocations. The calculated data agreed well with the analytical results of elasticity theory.
