The density and type of dislocations in cubic polycrystals were determined by using a new X-ray diffraction profile analysis method. The anisotropic strain-broadening of diffraction profiles was accounted for by dislocation contrast factors. The screw or edge nature of the dislocations in a severely deformed specimen was determined by analyzing the dislocation contrast factors. The dislocation density was calculated by using a modified Warren-Averbach procedure.
