The permeation of D through this martensitic steel was investigated both experimentally and theoretically at 573 to 873K. The diffusivities and solubilities which were obtained by using the diffusion-limited approach were found to be underestimated if surface contamination reduced the rates of dissociation and recombination. In order to reduce this effect, 2 series of tests involving differing surface conditions were used.
