A theoretical model was proposed which described the generation of misfit dislocations in multilayered films that were deposited onto plastically deformed substrates which contained disclinations. The ranges of parameters (disclination strength, misfit, layer thickness, disclination distribution), for which the generation of misfit dislocations was energetically favourable, were calculated for a multilayered film/substrate composite. It was suggested that certain features of the generation of misfit dislocations in multilayered films on disclinated substrates might be relevant to the exploitation of plastically deformed substrates.
