The contribution which dislocation cores made to the broadening of reciprocal lattice points, due to dislocations in a crystal, was estimated by using lattice Green functions to describe static displacements of the atoms. It was shown that this contribution was proportional to the angle of the integral misorientation of the dislocation sub-structure. The latter was experimentally determined by using X-ray methods, and depended upon fundamental characteristics of the sub-atomic structure and the condensed state.
