A detailed analysis was made of the conditions for the generation of misfit-induced defects (misfit wedge disclinations and disclination dipoles, periodic arrays of misfit wedge disclinations, misfit-dislocation walls) in a 2-phase cylindrical composite misfit system. It was shown that nucleation of the above defects was favoured in certain ranges of substrate and film thickness, misfit eigenstrain, disclination strength and misfit-dislocation wall misorientation angle. The limiting case of a massive (cylindrical, planar) substrate was investigated in particular.
