An approximate form of the atomic displacement field of a dislocation was introduced in order to evaluate the analytical expression for the diffracted wave amplitude. It was shown that 4 features (splitting, fading, bending, periodic contrast) of the higher-order Laue zone line contrast could be explained by analysing the atomic displacement field. Localized lattice plane bending around a dislocation core made a higher-order Laue zone line split, fade and bend. It was found that the periodic contrast of a higher-order Laue zone line was produced by the change in phase difference of the atomic displacement field between the crystals above and below the slip plane across the dislocation line.
