The dynamic behavior of an assembly of parallel dislocations was investigated at various length scales. It was first shown that a discrete dislocation system was able to reproduce several important features of plastic deformation. A self-consistent field continuum model was then derived. A stochastic approach was outlined which could be considered as being an intermediate-scale description, which lay between the discrete and continuum models.
