It was noted that quasicrystals possessed additional elastic degrees of freedom which were not found in conventional crystals. These were termed phason degrees of freedom. Dislocations in quasicrystals were special in that they were always accompanied by phason strain, in addition to conventional elastic strain. The characteristic features of such quasicrystalline dislocations and plastic properties of quasicrystals were reviewed; including the deformation of quasicrystals via dislocation motion.
