Annealing kinetics were studied for the case of the non-equilibrium ensembles of dislocations which occurred in grain boundaries during plastic deformation. Two types of dislocation ensemble were considered. The first comprised walls of sessile extrinsic grain boundary dislocations, which caused a change in the grain boundary misorientation angle. The other comprised arrays of glissile extrinsic grain boundary dislocations which had a Burgers vector that was tangential to the grain boundary plane. For both types of ensemble, similar exponential relationships were obtained for the relaxation of the average extrinsic grain boundary dislocation density; with almost the same characteristic time, which was proportional to the cube of grain size.
