A complete structural analysis of a bicrystal which contained a Σ = 3, [101](1¯21)A grain boundary was performed, by means of transmission electron microscopy, from the microscopic to the nanoscopic level. Secondary grain boundaries dislocations were observed which compensated small deviations from the exact Σ = 3 coincidence. Rigid-body displacements were deduced directly from high-resolution electron microscopy images, using samples with the surface normal parallel to and perpendicular to the tilt axis.
