Samples of the pure metal were prepared via a powder-metallurgy route which involved hot-pressing at 1100C, using a pressure of 20MPa. Plastic deformation of the β-phase could not be avoided under these conditions. An interesting twin-free sub-structure was observed which consisted of regularly distributed screw dislocations.
