An approximate method for the numerical solution of the kinetic equation which described the nucleation, growth and coarsening of point-defect clusters or second-phase precipitates was considered. The validity of the Kiritani grouping method was examined, in which a group of equations was replaced by a so-called averaged equation. A significant disagreement between the group kinetic equation and the original kinetic equation was revealed. A new grouping method, based upon the original equation, was proposed and its application to the solution of 2 problems was demonstrated by comparing the results of numerical and analytical calculations.
