A new type of stacking fault was found, using high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, in ultra-pure and ultra-fine β-phase material. The β-phase particles were prepared by using the plasma chemical vapour deposition method, and were quenched rapidly from the gas phase. This type of stacking fault disappeared from specimens which were heated at 1850C for 600s in an Ar atmosphere.
