The effect of controlled In substitution at B sites of the perovskite O-ion conductor, La0.9Sr0.1Ga0.8Mg0.2O2.85, was studied. Electrical conductivity measurements and microstructural analysis were used to check the location of the substituted cation and to monitor second-phase formation. The In clearly replaced Ga3+ on the B sites, and the electrical conductivity exhibited a gradual decrease as the In3+ content was increased. Interpretation of the data was complicated by the formation of LaInO3 and LaSrGaO4.
