A study was made of the formation of the 350nm intrinsic color center, and of the factors which affected transmission near to the absorption edge. Crystals with only 350nm intrinsic absorption bands were selected. An explanation for the origin of the 350nm color centers was based upon absorption spectra data and defect-structure analysis.
