Indentations were made in the (011) surfaces of single crystals at room temperature. The loading-unloading curves were compared with those obtained, under the same experimental conditions, on (001) surfaces. The indentations formed were observed by means of plan-view and cross-sectional transmission electron microscopy, in samples which had been prepared by using the focussed ion-beam technique. The glide systems could be identified, and this provided a better understanding of plastic flow under the indenter. The dislocation arrangements which were generated by the indenter were analyzed, and were compared with previous results.
