Grain-boundary diffusion in the regime which was affected by the internal stresses of triple-line disclinations was analysed. The concentration profiles in a stressed solid, averaged over a distribution of hydrostatic stress gradients, were calculated and it was shown that the stresses arising from triple-line disclinations in as-prepared sub-microcrystalline metals could significantly increase the effective grain-boundary diffusivity that was obtained by fitting concentration profiles to solutions of the diffusion equation for unstressed polycrystals.
