Pure and Sr/Mg-doped LaGaO3 was synthesized by using standard processes. Their electrical conductivity and crystal symmetry were investigated by means of direct-current 4-probe and Raman spectroscopy, respectively. The Raman analysis revealed a rhombohedral structure in La0.9Sr0.1Ga0.9Mg0.1O2.9 and LaGa0.8Mg0.2O2.9, while orthorhombic symmetry was detected in La0.8Sr0.2GaO2.9 and pure LaGaO3. Electrical measurements revealed that La0.9Sr0.1Ga0.9Mg0.1O2.9 and LaGa0.8Mg0.2O2.9 had similar ionic conductivities, which were higher than that of La0.8Sr0.2GaO2.9. The results strongly indicated that a high ionic conductivity preferred high symmetry in doped LaGaO3.
