Experimental electron diffraction studies of monoclinic material revealed additional reflections that were consistent with the proposed in-plane ordering of Li and vacancies. Electron diffraction patterns which resembled those for a spinel structure could be fully explained by the formation of a mazed microstructure and Li ordering in Li0.5CoO2. There was no evidence for a layered-to-spinel transformation in the LixCoO2 system.
