The effect of La dopant on the scintillation properties was found to depend upon the doping concentration. The conductivities of a series of La-doped single crystals were measured here and were explained by a change in the doping mechanism. It was proposed that the O vacancy was the main type of charge carrier at all doping levels from room temperature to 1000C. Offering high conductivity and low activation energy, heavily doped PWO:La may serve as a fast ion conductor of merit.
